Christmas 2020 is challenging us to find innovative ways to celebrate with family and those dear to our hearts. We don’t think it means canceling Christmas. Perhaps it means forming new traditions and becoming more aware of the “reason for the season” other than a brightly lit tree with a load of presents beneath it. We found a beneficial list of how to celebrate Christmas while adhering to the recommended list of guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is really important to plan early and try to identify safer alternatives.
Lower risk activities
• Having a small dinner with only people who live in your household
• Preparing traditional family recipes for family and neighbors, especially those at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, and delivering them in a way that does not involve contact with others
• Having a virtual dinner and sharing recipes with friends and family
• Shopping online rather than in-person throughout the holiday season, especially on the day after Chrismas
• Watching sports events, parades, and movies from home|
• Driving around and looking at Christmas lights with only people in your household.
• Walking through parks lit up with Christmas lights with people in your household.
Moderate risk activities
• Having a small outdoor dinner with family and friends who live in your community
• Attending a small outdoor sports event with safety precautions in place
Higher risk activities to avoid
• Going shopping in crowded stores throughout the holiday season
• Participating or being a spectator at a crowded race or sports event
• Attending crowded parties or gatherings
• Attending large indoor gatherings with people from outside of your household
• Using alcohol or drugs that may alter judgment and make it more difficult to practice COVID-19 safety measures
