Blue Is the New Orange

Several years ago, when Ben was little, he wanted a purple plastic pumpkin for Halloween. “Not orange?” I asked. “Nope! I like purple.” So we still have that purple candy bucket with the smiling jack-o-lantern face. It didn’t cost much, but it made Ben happy. Now there’s another color on the market, that will hopefully make some children and their parents happy, too.

According to a Facebook post that has gone viral, and news media has now picked up on…Omaris Taylor is a mom of a three-year-old autistic, non-verbal little boy. Taylor posted:

“Last year, houses will wait for him to say ‘trick or treat’ in order for him to get a piece of candy and there I go explaining the situation for the next [five] blocks. This year, we will be trying the blue bucket to signify he has autism,”

Here’s her exact Facebook post:

My son is 3 years old and has autism. He is nonverbal. Last year houses will wait for him to say TRICK OR TREAT in order for him to get a piece of candy and there I go explaining the situation for the next 5 blocks. This year we will be trying the BLUE BUCKET to signify he has autism. Please allow him(or anyone with a BLUE BUCKET) to enjoy this day and don’t worry I’ll still say TRICK OR TREAT for him, ill get my mom candy tax later
